Beyond the Maelstrom (渦の向こう, Uzu no Mukou) is the 2nd episode of Gibiate anime series.
Synopsis[]
After meeting Kathleen, Sensui and Kenroku were invited to the camp where people live close together. Wanting to see how good Sensui is at kendo, Kathleen challenged him to a kendo match. Then the camp lights suddenly went out and the Gibias attacked. How will Sensui, Kenroku and the others fight against the unknown Gibia?
Summary[]
Kathleen records Sensui and asks him about himself and his swordmanship. Sensui explains that he was taught by a western swordsman and at age of 15 was taken by his current master, where he practiced at the Nen-ryuu dojo.
Kathleen challenges Sensui at kendo, wanting to confirm how strong he is and if he will be able to protect the people from Gibia. Kenroku tries to explain that Sensui is too strong for she to take him. She then wonders who is stronger between them and Sensui states they are evenly matched. Sensui accepts Kathleen's request and easily beats her, while dodging her attacks. He explains he doesn't clash swords as it dulls the blade. Kathleen gets excited that he is strong and then helps them dress more fashionable. Kenroku is shocked to see his hair blue, but she comments he looks cool and that he would be easy to notice. While he starts liking it, he mumbles that if a ninja is standing out that much, its done for.
They visit Yurika and Sensui asks her if she knows what happened of Jouzen Matsumoto. As she is a fan of that period, she pulls out a book and comments that he kept betraying people until he was ultimately beheaded. Meanwhile, Maeda manages to return to camp with the katana with the help of Adam and Brian, who chased away the Gibia chasing him. Maeda finds Sensui, but in that moment the light go out. People start to panic as Gibia are coming. Dr. Yoshinaga tells Kathleen to go to Yurika, while he asks Kenroku to come with him and help the defensive team. A flying Gibia then stings and takes Maeda with it, but Sensui manages to get on it and take the katana and kill it.
Sensui then continues fighting, killing other Gibia. Yoshinaga comes up with the idea to burn the tents in hopes it makes enough light to chase the Gibia away. While helping him, Kenroku sees some wires and uses the to kill a Gibia. Sensui helps Adam and Brian, telling them to go help Kathleen. Sensui eventually faces a Gibia that is sturdy enough to withstand his katana and chips part of the blade. Kenroku then shows up using grenades, allowing Sensui to see weak points and cut it.
As the morning arrives, they manage to defend against the Gibia. Maeda have been hearing the dipping water for a while and is about to turn into Gibia. He comments how awesome and strong Sensui is and asks him to kill him before he turns to Gibia, which Sensui agrees to.
